The NC SBI has released a report stating that NC’s crime rate was lower in 2013 that in the preceding 40 years. According to their press release, crime overall decreased 7% from 2012.
However, the FBI’s data disagrees, attributing a slight increase in crime rate to North Carolina. The differences are attributed to the way each agency collects data, and the timing of such collection and reports.
