NC Divorce Rules

In North Carolina, you cannot get a divorce until you have been separated for at least one year. In that time period you can handle issues over Equitable Distribution, Child Custody, Alimony, Child Support, etc. The first option is to lay out a separation agreement. This will take care of every concern before the actual divorce. The benefit to this is that when it comes time to file for divorce everything is taken care of and there is no need to continue through the court system after filing for divorce.
