Symptoms and Treatment of Back Injuries

Chronic (long term, persistent) back Injuries can present with only mild discomfort at the time of the injury. It is only later when you bend over to pick up a child’s toy, for example, that the original and far more serious back injury rears its ugly head. The back is a marvel of engineering that requires many moving parts to work with each other. Affecting just one seemingly minor part can lead to a cascade effect involving the entire system.

Knowing what to be on the lookout for and recognizing the early signs of a potentially chronic back injury can be a lifestyle saver. Remember that chronic back pain will be a major hindrance to your future quality of life. Early signs of back pain can present in a variety of ways including, but not limited to; aching or stiffness anywhere between your neck and hips, any change in sensation of the arms or feet, a dull ache that is brought on by bending or twisting, increased stiffness getting out of a bed or a chair. Often the first noticeable sign is when a friend or relative asks you why you are a little stooped over or are standing leaning slightly to one side.

Unfortunately the treatments for many back injuries consist of long term pain relief and years of physical therapy. Many times a surgical fix is required but even this can still involve long term pain management and physical therapy.

One of the most important things to remember when dealing with any personal injury torts caused by a third party is that you have a limited time from the original cause of the injury in which to claim compensation from the party causing the injury.  If the back injury you sustain is caused by negligence, for example a car driver is distracted by something like a cell phone conversation and runs a stop sign and hits your car you have 3 years from the time of the accident to file a suit. There are some rare exceptions to this rule which one of our attorneys can discuss with you when you contact us for your free case evaluation.
